weeks 5 & 6

 The next 2 weeks were a bit busy.  After he had his 1 month checkup, we did lots more activities.  

 Cousin Love

 We used the jogging stroller and went for a walk in the neighborhood one day.  

Wells did great, and aside from sweating, he just slept the whole time

 I used the breast pump for the 1st time in anticipation of an upcoming trip and Wells took a bottle like a champ.  Our big boy has no problems with eating but it was kind of sad to see him not "need" me!

On Thursday night we went on our 1st real road trip.  I fed Wells and we did bedtime routine and then we got loaded in the car and left at about 8 pm to go to Ben's grandmother's house (about 4 hours away).  We were all exhausted by the time we got there and went straight to bed.  But Friday we had an awesome time visiting with Grandmother and having her meet Wells for the 1st time.  Grandmother is Wells' only great-grandparent and we cherish every single second we get to spend with her.  

 She still has so much energy and fire in her and will get down in the floor with the baby and play.  Wonderful memories!

From grandmother's house we headed to Atlanta for Ben's college friend's wedding!  Ralson & Kimmee got married and Ben was able to be there for all of the festivities while Wells and I hung out at the hotel.  During the day on Saturday we got out and about together in Atlanta and introduced Wells to all of Ben's college guy friends and their wives (Ben is the first one to have a baby).  I hated to miss the wedding and heard it was gorgeous but loved hanging out with my little guy.

 After we got home on Sunday I took this picture because he was looking SO much older to me all of a sudden!  Time needs to slow down!  

At 6 weeks, momma had HER post-partum checkup and was all healthy! Wells came with me and did great in his carseat (he loves this thing and sleeps in it awesomely)

Next, it was time to get ready for our big trip (next post) and Wells hung out helping me pack!  

1 month old

Week 4 of Wells' life started out great!  He FINALLY got to meet 2 very special people that he had not met yet: His uncle Hollis (who was out of town when Wells was born) and cousin puppy Mosley!

 We were so glad Rachel and Hollis (and Mosley) came in town and came to stay with us!  We had a delicious steak dinner and they must have brought the good luck because Wells slept for 5 hours straight this night.  

On Saturday we drove up to Chatom because Daddy got a new car! He traded in his college pickup truck for a daddy Tahoe- he's going to need it with all this baby gear Wells requires!

That weekend is really when we realized that Hurricane Isaac was headed very near our direction so we went down to the beach to help Ben's parents get their house ready for the storm... Wells got his 1st pictures at the beach house and wore an outfit to go with the occasion! 

Hurricane Isaac luckily wasn't as bad as predicted in our area, but just provided a good bit of rain and a few days off work for daddy that week!  YAY for family time.  

That week he wore footed pajamas to bed for the 1st time (gowns are so much easier since you can access the diaper in the middle of the night) 

I saw these in our baby store but couldn't bring myself to buy either one because our child needs half of each.  With momma being an Auburn fan and Daddy being an Alabama fan, we are going to have a very confused little boy.  Daddy went to Auburn though, so he doesn't have a leg to stand on, but Momma goes to Alabama games since we have season tickets so I can't say much either.  Like I said: one confused child!

Friday we had a playdate at our house with baby Caroline- they are 3 months apart and going to be best friends.  It's fun to see what Caroline is doing each month so I know what we are just around the corner from doing with Wells!  The mommas had a pretty great time visiting with each other, too. 

 Then we went to the beach for Labor Day weekend!  Wells wore his swim shorts for the first time!

This was opening weekend of football season and we watched all the games.  As mentioned before, Wells will be confused with a house divided, but when Ben was outside I snuck a hand me down Auburn onesie on him and he had a photo shoot with his cousins.  How could they be any cuter?

Trust me, Wells will be seen in some Alabama gear sometime soon I'm sure, but I gotta capture the little Auburn Tiger while I can.

Sunday (his 1 month birthday) we came back from the beach and decided that it was time for Wells to move out of our room and the bassinet and try sleeping in his own room in his crib!  He really did great.  He slept in much better intervals and we weren't woken up with every single little grunt and coo (something he started doing a lot more of this week- i'll just call it "talking").  

Wells had his 1 month Dr visit and did great.  Ironically, we were in the "house divided" exam room

He weighed 10 pounds 9 ounces (75 %tile)

is 23.25 inches tall (above 95 %tile)

and has a head circumference of 38cm (75 %tile)  

 I noticed this week that this is the way he constantly holds his hands- and I think it's precious

 Wells turned one month old on September 2nd and started to look so much older and less squishy newborny

Age: 1 month old

Likes: real baths, looking at lights, being burped

Dislikes: hiccups, when the paci falls out, pooping (he gets so red faced and fussy during the process)

Eating:  Still breastfeeding every 3 hours during the day (and whenever he wakes up at night) and doing GREAT with it.  

Sleeping:  sleeps steadily for 3-4 hours at a time at night until he wakes up ready to eat. Slept from 10pm-3am and then 3:30am-8am one night and it was HEAVENLY! 

Diapers: Size 1 Pampers 

Clothes: 3 month sizes

I'm going to miss our weekly updates/pictures and now move to one update per month (per the stickers I have to document it).  Don't worry, there will be other posts in between to cover our goings and doings!  

Mommy moments

(I have been trying to publish this post for over a week but I can't get blogger to work from my phone and, well, it's much harder to get on the real computer these days... grrrr)

I'm sure the stories will start flowing now that I'm a parent and as the years go by. Here are 2:

1. One night during our first week at home with Wells I had an interesting problem. Wells was sleeping in his bassinet right by my bed, he woke up around 2am and I fed him in bed, then changed his diaper and was about to put him back in the bassinet to sleep when I realized that I couldn't find the dirty diaper that I had just taken off of him. I searched all over the bed and knew that I hadn't gotten up yet so it HAD to be on the bed... But it wasn't. I start laughing in my delirium and Ben wakes up ad asks me what was going on. He then tears all the covers off and we search and don't find the diaper. I look on the floor and it's not there. It obviously wasn't IN the bed so I get back in and try to go to sleep. I could NOT go to sleep because I was so curious where this diaper was! I felt like i was going insane with "i know i didn't throw it away", "i know its not in the bed", "WHERE IS IT!?" I turn the light back on and get back up and search the edge of the bed and finally slide my hand under the bedside table and there it was. Apparently after I rolled it up when changing him, it rolled off the bed and under the table out of sight. Good to know I wasn't insane and it was an interesting 2am laugh!

2. The first time I left the house with Wells by myself (his second week home when we went to Mobile to eat lunch with Nat & Mimi) was quite a feat getting everything together. I got him in his carseat and had the diaper bag and head to my car in the garage. I realized that I needed to strap the carseat base to the seat first so I put Wells down and used my auto-start feature on my car keys so that I wouldn't be sweating while strapping the base in. I get it done and get Wells in the car and all set, close the door, and go to open the driver's side door to find that it's locked!.... As are the rest of the doors! Panic! In order to use the auto start engine button you first must lock all the doors and after I did this I put my keys down in the back seat to handle Wells. Big mistake because this new momma just locked her baby and the keys in her car!!!! While I had a momentary freak out, I was so relieved to be in my garage and not out away from my house because I had a spare set of keys inside that I ran to get and all was fine. I hope I never REALLY lock myself out of my car with him inside!

And in other news, we already have a missing baby sock. How can you NOT lose these tiny things!?!?

3 weeks

Our third week of life continued to be busy and fun!  Daddy had to go out of town for the weekend so we decided to join my family at the Camp house.  Bennett came over before we all headed that way and he rode with us to the camp.  He is so in love with Wells and always wants to hold him, kiss him, and make sure he's ok!

The first night at the camp we barely slept at ALL... the lack of sleep started around 1:45am and at 7am when I heard someone in another part of the house I was relieved and handed baby off to my mom.  Change of scenery and sounds, sleeping in Nap Nanny instead of Bassinet, and Daddy being gone made for difficulty sleeping I guess.... After napping almost all day Saturday (me), we actually slept much better Saturday night.  I don't know how I could go without this video monitor.

When we were at the hospital, Emory really wanted nothing to do with the baby (as you can see from the pictures)... but at the camp she asked to hold the baby, absolutely LOVED it, and did NOT want us to take him away from her (Wells really wasn't upset the whole time she held him, only during the picture).  SO sweet!

Monday we went on an outing to the Vet's office because Harper's eye was bothering him.  We put our animal onesie on for the adventure

and this was the 1st time I used the Baby Bjorn around the house to be productive... Baby only wanted to be held but momma had things to do!  I cooked Ben's Birthday cookies, unloaded & loaded the dishwasher, and did laundry while babywearing!

For a little while, I put him down in his crib to nap for the 1st time

The next day, August 21st, was Ben's Birthday!!!  We went out to buy his presents and posed for a picture to make his birthday card!

We got dressed up for Daddy's Birthday dinner and flashed a sorta smile for momma!

Most of the time he LOVES laying on the changing pad.  I am so glad the dresser has the mirror because he loves to just stare into it and it usually makes him fall asleep...

Yep, once again another week had gone by and he turned 3 weeks old!

Age: 3 weeks old

Likes: laying on his tummy, mommy holding him, sleeping in the Nap Nanny, his PACI (from the beginning we were offering the paci but he didn't really seem to care one way or the other, but now he really loves it to soothe)

Dislikes: bath time, his bassinet, when the car stops (he doesn't mind being in his carseat but he knows when we aren't moving and doesn't like that)

Eating:  Breastfeeding every 3 hours during the day (and whenever he wakes up at night) and doing GREAT with it.  

Sleeping:  Hit or miss.  For the most part he still sleeps steadily for 3-3.5 hours at a time at night until he wakes up ready to eat.  Only 1 or 2 nights (like that night at the camp) have we been up all night.

Diapers: Size 1 Pampers (I opened a package of size 1 Huggies this week and he had a BLOW OUT... the legs don't seem to be as snug on him as Pampers are so we can't use Huggies until he's a little chunkier)

Clothes: All the newborn PJ's are put away and we wear 0-3 or 3 month clothes exclusively.  This week, for our picture, the plain white gerber onesie in 0-3 month was too small so we had to wear a 3-6 month onesie!  

We're well on our way to turning 1 month old!
