Sewing Practice

...something I need alot of...
.
i have a feeling that my mother is not impressed with my sewing skills... seeing as how incredible she is (made clothes for us all the time, pillows, etc etc, mends, etc etc, shes incredible) I surely would have picked this up and been a fantastic sewer too.. i mean, Natalie definitely has, sews all kinds of clothes for Bennett, etc etc... I on the other hand... I have put enough safety pins on the hem of my pants, skirts, pillows with holes in them, shorts, etc etc to run out of safety pins and had to buy a whole bunch more... safety pins were ALWAYS my method of sewing. to the point that people have either fixed my clothes for me because it looked so horrible or HIGHLY urged me to finally do something about this laziness (just this past weekend my daddy pointed out that the stuffing was falling out of my pillow that I travel with.. yeah, it was falling out AROUND the safety pin that was ATTEMPTING to hold it in)....
.
I contemplated asking for a sewing machine for my last birthday because I think that if I knew more about how to work one, I would make things, mends things, and enjoy it!!! One of these days, when I don't have anything else on my wish list, I think I will seriously ask for a sewing machine and get with the program... but for now, the only practice I'm getting is this...Harper's toys get so destroyed that the stuffing and squeakers and pouring out and I FORCE myself to get out a needle and thread and sew them up so that we don't have to keep buying him more and more toys... I sewed those 2 on Sunday and now have 2 more of his toys waiting for me to mend tomorrow.
.
Another reason I'm not big on sewing is because I don't have a sewing kit. My sewing kit, since college, has consisted of a SNACK SIZE Ziploc bag with one spool of thread, a bunch of buttons, and a travel sewing kit from a hotel. Yep, that's it. My momma thought that I was given a sewing basket like both of my sisters had, but nope, not me. I did upgrade my plastic bag to a more substantial bag on Sunday, though... so I present to you.. my SEWING KIT! Which I INTEND to get more use out of! :) We'll see...
